Chelation therapy is a non surgical alternative to cardiovascular procedures, including angioplasty, stint placement and bypass procedures. Chelation therapy involves a series of intravenous infusion treatments of ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid, or EDTA. This is a synthetic amino acid that bonds with minerals in the circulatory system to detoxify the body.
Chelation therapy uses EDTA to bond to lead, mercury, calcium, cadmium and trace minerals. The minerals are bonded to the EDTA and removed from the body in the urine.
There is still debate in the medical community about the mechanism of action in chelation treatments, but an increase in oxygenated blood supply has been demonstrated. The treatment involves a comprehensive plan that encompasses the treatments, along with lifestyle changes that are essential for cardiovascular health for the most lasting benefit.
The number of treatments varies, depending on the needs of the patient. This will be evaluated by our medical staff, along with finding the right schedule of follow up treatments after the initial series of infusions. A fairly routine schedule includes an initial program of 30 infusions and then follow up treatments about once a month for a year.
We will recommend the number of treatments that is best for the individual patient and provided a comprehensive health plan. This generally involves eliminating the use of alcohol, smoking and caffeine, implement a healthy diet and exercise program, managing stress and setting a regular sleep schedule to achieve optimal health.
